Marilyn Schmit, of Port Washington, passed away surrounded by her loving family in the morning hours of Friday, October 21, 2016 at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. She was 80 years old. Marilyn was born on August 7, 1936 in Marinette WI, daughter of Arnold Reif and Gladys Kastner Reif. In the mid 1940's her family moved to Saukville. Marilyn attended Port Washington High School, graduating in 1954. On February 7, 1959, she married Charles "Chuck" Schmit at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington. Marilyn worked in the insurance industry for many years, and later at MATC North Campus in Mequon. She was a longtime member of St. John XXIII Parish where she was also a member of the Christian Women. She was an active member of the Port Washington Senior Center, loved playing cards, bingo, volleyball, bowling and taking family trips to Eagle River. Marilyn is survived by her husband Chuck of Port Washington, four children: Debbie (Dave) Murphy of Fort Myers, FL, Linda (Chuck) Mobraten of Woodside, CA, Jeff (Jane) Schmit of Mukwonago, and Mike (Kim) Schmit of Belgium. She is further survived by eight grandchildren: Rochelle, Ryan, Tyler, Marla, Kyle, Collin, Conner, and Haeley; two great-grandchildren, Kaden and Charlotte; one sister, Judy (Killian) Bode; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her in-laws, Rose and Louis Schmit. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 26th, 6 PM at St. John XXIII Parish – St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington. Father Pat Wendt will preside over Mass. Visitation will precede the Mass at the church from 4-6 PM. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Mausoleum, Port Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John XXIII Parish. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is honored to serve the family.
