Obituary

Marilyn Nelson, a beloved member of the Port Washington community, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, June 10, 2024, at the age of 89.

Marilyn was born in Port Washington on November 15, 1934, the daughter of William and Norine (Larson) Miller. Marilyn grew up in Port Washington and was a proud graduate of Port Washington High School, where she formed lasting friendships and cherished memories. She furthered her education, obtaining an associate's degree from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater.

Marilyn dedicated over two decades of her life as a bookkeeper for the City of Port Washington, where her meticulous work ethic and kind-hearted nature left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the community she served. She was a lifelong and active member of the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church and the Port Washington Historical Society, where Marilyn found joy in giving tours of the Port Washington Light Station, sharing her passion for local history with others.

Family meant everything to Marilyn, their love and support were the foundation of her life, bringing her immeasurable happiness and comfort.

A woman of adventure, Marilyn cherished her travels to the Dominican Republic, where she embraced new experiences and cultures with an open heart and mind. Her zest for life and love for exploration inspired those around her to seize every moment and cherish the beauty of the world.

Marilyn is survived by her three children: Norine (Jeff Pfluger) Nelson, Laura (David) Didier, and Brian (Eileen) Nelson. She is further survived by seven grandchildren: Erin (Jeff), Adam, Brennan (Violet), Nicole, Eric (Karen), Sophia, and Starlet, two great-grandchildren Olivia and Joshua, her former husband and friend Bill Nelson, other relatives and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents William and Norine, and her brother James Miller.

Funeral services will be held on Friday June 21, 2024, at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 505 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington with visitation from 4-6 PM, followed by the funeral service at 6 PM.

She will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Port Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Port Washington Historical Society.
