Obituary

Margaret M. McGurk (nee Gall, nee Fechter) passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the age of 89 surrounded by her family. She was born to Alois and Susan (Fleissner) Fechter Sr. in the town of Saukville on January 20, 1928; and was a graduate of Holy Trinity Catholic grade school in Newburg. On May 7, 1949 she married Oliver Gall of Cedarburg and began raising her sons John, Tom, and Michael. Less than 5 weeks after Michael's birth, Oliver was killed in a traffic accident on August 23, 1954. She moved her family to her father's farm until August, 1956 when she relocated to Cedarburg. While raising her sons over the next 15 years she worked as a cashier at Paulus Supermarket. In 1971, she married James Patrick McGurk. Together they created a blended family of 10 siblings ages 9 to 21. Now living in Fox Point she not only managed this large family but later returned to work at Sendik's where she remained until retiring and moving to Las Vegas with Jim in 1996. Jim's poor health in 2002 caused them to return to Wisconsin in late 2002, when they moved to Brookfield Highlands in Waukesha. With Jim's passing in 2005, Margaret remained at Brookfield Highlands until December 2015 when she moved to HarborChase of Shorewood; where she resided until her death. Margaret's love of life was evident in everything she did. Whether cooking meals for 20 or more; tending her gardens; playing with her dogs; playing cards especially sheepshead; reading books; doing jigsaw puzzles, or donating to the "one-arm bandits" at the casino she never seemed to run out of energy. Additionally she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed the annual family campout weekend which she still participated in this last June. Over the years Margaret became the glue that held this large family together. She is survived by John (Cathy) Gall, Michael (Cheryl Wyant) Gall, Mary Pat (Jack Erdman) McGurk, Dennis (Kate) McGurk, Daniel (Roxanne) McGurk, Nancy (Gordon) Haak, Jim (Roxanne) McGurk, Judith (Craig) Papajohn, Kevin (Christine) McGurk, and Laureen (David Cohen) Seeger. She is further survived by 20 grandchildren, Nick, Chris, Melissa, Matthew, Meaghan, Michael, Mallory, Marshal, Dan, Kelly, Kara, Andrea, Jessica, Tom, Molly, George, Kathy, Kyle, Angela, Grace; 13 great grandchildren,Vanessa, Damian, Nico, Tristan, Maile, Jack, Ben, Lars, Lena, Leonard, Nolan, Grady, Magnus; sister Barbara (Don) Brickheimer, brother Robert Fechter, sisters-in-law Frances (Bob) Kissinger, Marion (Biever) Paklasny and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her husbands and parents; Margaret was preceded in death by her son Tom, step-mother Rose Fechter, brother George Fechter, brother Alois Fechter Jr., sister Rosemary Wolf, and sister Marie Schwinn. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:00PM on Friday, November 24, 2017 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church North (1375 Covered Bridge Rd.
