Mrs. Lucille Wellenstein, of Glendale, formerly of the Town of Belgium, passed away peacefully one day past her 103rd birthday at Laurel Oaks, where she had been a resident.
Lucille was born in the Town of Belgium on June 29, 1915, daughter of Dominic Ternes and Leona Husting Ternes. On October 7, 1939 she married Lawrence Wellenstein at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake Church.
Lucille was a lifelong and active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake Church (now Divine Savior Parish). She was an outstanding homemaker, baker and weaver. Lucille was the bookkeeper for her husband's custom homebuilding business. The couple enjoyed working in their yard and traveling together. She volunteered for St. Mary School in Lake Church and St. Alphonsus Hospital in Port Washington. Her penmanship and humor were perfect for 102 years!
Lucille raised her children with gentle guidance. She had an endless supply of cookies for her grandchildren, and deep pride in her great-grandsons. Lucille is survived by her children Larry (Mary Jo) Wellenstein of Glendale and Gail (Nicholas de Chadenedes, MD) Wellenstein, MD of Everett, WA. She is further survived by six grandchildren: Amy Emmer of Snohomish, WA, Katy Emmer of Port Washington, Max (Patty Sibbernsen) Wellenstein of Shorewood, Annie (Rob) McLean of Wiesbaden, Germany, Mark de Chadenedes of Seattle, WA and Brett de Chadenedes of Boise, ID, four great-grandsons: Liam and Neil Wellenstein and Kai and Rhys McLean, her beloved sister Leone Garrett of Anchorage, AK, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence, daughter Marie Emmer, and four siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 6th, 11 AM at Divine Savior Parish – Holy Cross Chapel, 5330 Highway B, Belgium. Father Todd Budde will preside over Mass. Lucille will be laid to rest next to her husband in St. Mary Parish Cemetery, Lake Church. Visitation will take place at the CHURCH on Friday from 10-11 AM.
