Longtime Town of Cedarburg resident Loretta R. Schommer passed away at Aurora Medical in Grafton, on Wednesday March 27, 2019, at the age of 96.
Loretta Rose Schneider was born in Charlesburg, WI on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Theresa (Nee Boehnlein) Schneider. She was united in marriage to Germann "Dick" Schommer on September 13, 1947. The couple settled in the Town of Cedarburg and it would continue to be Loretta's home until she moved into Lasata Care Center 2 years ago. The Schommer's were active members of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. They donated one of the 12 stone benches located in the Marion Shrine on the grounds of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church. The bench is inscribed with the 3 virtues that will last forever, "Love, Hope & Faith". For many years, Loretta worked as a waitress at Stemmler's White Coach Inn in Thiensville. In retirement they enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cottage on Fox Lake. Loretta also participated in the Teddy Bear Classes at the Cedarburg Senior Center.
Survivors include her children, Ann (Fred) Schroedl of Hartford, Richard (Lori) Schommer of Franklin and Mark (Lori) Schommer of Muskego; grandchildren Chad Schroedl, Lee (Kristin) Schroedl, Kyle (Jacki) Schommer, Paul Schommer and Brett Schommer; great-grandchildren, Emily, Jacob and Will; brother, Jim (Yvonne) Schneider; sister-in-law, Rita Schneider; along with nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Germann "Dick" Schommer; her parents; siblings, Marie (Martin) Woelfel, Evelyn (Vince) Hanke, Florence Schneider, 2 infant sisters, Luke (Nellie) Schneider, Joseph Schneider Jr. and Mark Schneider; sisters-in-law, Verona (George) Nisler, Eileen (Roman) Schneider, Margaret (Phil) Lang (Ed) Sontag, Frances (Ben) Kern, Rose Mary (Henry) Schadt; brothers-in-law, Edward (Anita) Schommer and Roman (Alma, Melda) Schommer.
Mass of Christian Burial 4:00 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church-North, 1375 Covered Bridge Rd, Cedarburg. Fr. Patrick Burns officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday at the church from 2:00 PM until time of Mass and at a reception following the Mass. Private interment St. Francis Borgia Cemetery. Memorials to the Church or the Cedarburg Senior Center, appreciated.
