Obituary

Lester Norman Maechtle was born October 16, 1930 to Walter and Lenora (nee Reinke) Maechtle on the family farm homestead settled in 1848 by his great-grandfather in the Township of Saukville. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the age of 90. Lester graduated from Port Washington High School in 1948. After high school Lester proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War where he fought on the front lines in the 25th Infantry Unit. He married Donna Carriveau on September 1, 1956. Lester traveled with his wife to Wyoming to work on a cattle ranch for three summers. They settled back in Port Washington to start their family. Lester was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and long-time member of the local VFW Post 5373. He also belonged to the Winchester Club of National Cowboy Hall of Fame. Lester retired from Grob Inc. in Grafton after 30 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed hunting small game, waterfowl, and deer. He was a cowboy at heart, loved horseback riding, and owned a few horses over the years. Lester listened to western music and saw many of his favorite artists in concert. He liked action, western and war movies and enjoyed reading. Lester had an extensive beer and soda can collection and was a model train enthusiast. His train layout was quite large, taking up much of his basement. It can be seen on YouTube under "One man's model trains." Lester is survived by his sons, Shad "Cheyenne" (Emilie) Maechtle, Shawn (Jacqueline) Maechtle, and Scott (Lorie) Maechtle; step grandchildren Jeff, Dustin, Nathan, and Zachary; step great-grandchildren Hailey, Kinsley, and Kayson; sister-in-law Barbara Zacher. He is further survived by nieces, nephews' other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Donna, sister Dorothy and brother Elroy; special cousin Harvey Maechtle and brother-in-law Harvey Zacher. A funeral service will be held at "high noon" on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Open Door Bible Church, 3420 Hwy LL, Port Washington, WI 53074. Pastor Sid Litke will preside. The family will receive visitors at the church from 10:30am until the time of service. Lester will be laid to rest next to his wife Donna at Union Cemetery in Port Washington where he will receive full military honors. The Maechtle family would like to extend a special thank you to Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care.
