Leona F. Remitz, of Port Washington, formerly of Saukville died Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. She was 94 years old.
Leona was born on August 11, 1923 in the Town of Port Washington, daughter of Charles and Jennie Baumann Wilde. On December 21, 1944, she married Arnold Witte at Friedens Church in Port Washington. He preceded her in death on February 15, 1945 while in the service of his country during WW II. On July 24, 1948, she married Albert Remitz at St. Mary's Church, Port Washington. He preceded her in death on February 28, 2018.
Leona worked at various Port Washington companies, including the Wisconsin Chair Factory, Schill's Bakery, and Ewig Bros. She retired from Smith Bros Restaurant after 15 years in 1993, where she was famous for her lemon meringue pie. Leona was a longtime member of St. John XXIII Parish – Immaculate Conception Church, where she was active for many years with the Christian Women.
She is survived by her children Barbara (Richard) Gahan of Port Washington and Alan (Roxanne) Remitz of St. Charles, IL. She is further survived by 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, her sister Audrey Feider of Sheboygan, brother Lawrence Wilde of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by 1 sister and 6 brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 27, 6 PM at St. John XXIII - Immaculate Conception Church, Saukville, with Father Patrick Wendt presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Saukville. Visitation at the CHURCH Friday from 4-6 PM.
