Leo P. Karrels Leo Karrels age 97 of Port Washington died Tuesday evening November 25 2014 at Harbor Club in Port Washington. He was born October 1 1917 in the Town of Belgium son of Philip and Anna Meyer Karrels. On November 25 1939 he married Dorothy Meyer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington. She preceded him in death in 1978. He later married Jean Smith who preceded him in death in 1996. Leo was known as one of the progressive farmers in the Town of Port Washington where he farmed for many years. He was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church the Luxemburg American Cultural Society Catholic Knights Catholic Order of Foresters Ozaukee County Farm Bureau many area farm Co- Operatives and enjoyed fishing at his cottage at Legend Lake with his dog Maggie at his side. He took great pride in using his woodworking skills to make rocking horses baby cribs and cedar chests for his grandchildren. He is survived by his five children Roger (Sharon) Karrels of Port Washington Kathy (Joe) Plier of Port Washington Ronald (Jeanne) Karrels of New Holstein Elaine (Bob) Weyker of Saukville and Ed (Kim) Karrels of Nashville TN 15 grandchildren 29 great grandchildren 3 great great-grandchildren 5 stepchildren: Chris (Karen) Smith Mark (Jane) Smith Sandy (Ronald) Monty Virginia Smith and Jeff Smith 3 sisters-in-law Jean Karrels Madelyn Meyer and Viola Meyer nieces nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Milton Karrels and four sisters Margaret Karrels Julie Ann Burmesch Sally Krueger and Betty Ann Skebba and his stepson Richard Smith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday December 6 12 noon at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church 1800 N. Wisconsin St. Port Washington with Father Patrick Wendt presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Port Washington. Visitation at the CHURCH Saturday from 9 AM until time of Mass at noon. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Port Washington Food Pantry or Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation appreciated.
