Obituary

Leo Alois Roman Fechter Jr. was born on October 10, 1953 to Leo Alois Fechter Sr. and Mary Jane Fechter (nee Schmitz). Leo passed away unexpectedly on Sunday January 14, 2024.

Leo is survived by his wife Sara Fechter, his children Kate (Leonardo), Lea (Ryan), and Leo III, and grandchildren Waverleigh, Beverleigh, Landon and Baby Boy due April 2024; mother Mary Jane Fechter; siblings Anthony (Doris) Fechter, MaryLou (Ken) Dommer, Thomas Fechter, Margie (Ken) Strack, William Fechter, Sandra (Joseph) Thill, Gerald Fechter, Jean

(Timothy) Morrison, Steve (Kelly) Fechter. Further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, and nephews, also brother-In-law John Van De Hey and sister-In-law Mary (Kevin) Van De Hey.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister Elizabeth Fechter, his father Leo Alois Fechter Sr, his nephew Matthew Strack, mother-In-law Kay Ellis, brother-in-law Mark Van De Hey. Leo was also preceded in death by aunts, uncles and cousins.

Leo was raised on the family farm. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and later attended and graduated from the Random Lake School District. After graduation he farmed with his parents on the family farm. Leo and his brother Tony bought farms in Greenbush, WI. In 1982 Sara came to work on Leo's farm. They were married August 12, 1988 at St. Fridolin's Church in Glenbeulah, WI.

While farming in Adell they welcomed their children Kate, Lea, and Leo III. After farming he held a few different jobs including delivering newspapers, Great Lakes Cheese, and driving a school bus for Riteway. His children rode with him, and they often stopped at Dairy Queen in Belgium after the last stop to get ice cream together.

Leo began his new career driving for Beine Milk Transit picking up milk on farms in 2005. The following year Leo and his family bought a house in the town of Fredonia where he lived with his wife and son until his passing.

He welcomed and cherished his grandchildren Waverleigh (2019), Beverleigh (2021), Landon (2022) and one on the way in April of 2024.

Leo very much loved his family and especially enjoyed time with his grandbabies. He loved being Papa and sharing stories and pictures of his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, WI 53074. Deb Hamm will preside. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 1:00-4:00pm. Leo will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Random Lake.
