Mr. Larry Block of Cedarburg, formerly of Milwaukee, Saukville, Grafton, and West Bend, passed away early Saturday morning, December 7, 2024, at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. He was 83 years old.
Larry was born on August 17, 1941, in Milwaukee, the son of Lawrence and Jeanette (nee Gaarz) Block. He attended local schools, including Rufus King High School. Following his schooling Larry enlisted in the US Army where he served in the 178th Ordnance Company out of Fort Bragg.
On December 7, 1973, Larry was united in marriage with Diane Stephan in Waukegan, IL. The couple settled in Saukville and raised their family while working at the Grafton Hotel. In 1976, the family moved to West Bend where Larry and Diane opened the Block's Supper Club. In 1981 they changed the tone of the establishment to a Young Adult Bar called City Limits. For 10 years he was an assistant manager at Noodles & Company in West Bend. Larry continued to work in the food and beverage sector for many years.
Larry was an active member of Risen Hope Community Church in Random Lake. He enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include his loving wife Diane, their children Lonny (Tracy) Block of Beechwood, Chandra (Mirko) Mijailovic of New Prospect, Chandel Block of The Woodlands, TX, Lawrence Block III of Nevada, and Kelly Camp of New Jersey. He is further survived by four grandchildren: Cody Krahn, Zachary Block, Amanda Block, and Coleman Bartow, sisters Sharon (the late Ron) Westerdahl, Shelby (Jim) Klug, Sandi (Jim) Cole, brothers James and Peter Block, sister-in-law Jean (the late Ronald) Block, nieces, nephews, other family and many friends. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wayne and Ronald Block, and parents-in-law Don and Connie Stephan.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6PM on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Eernisse Funeral Home in Cedarburg (1167 Washington Ave., Cedarburg, WI 53012). Pastor Steve Wood will preside the service. The family will receive guests at the Funeral Home on Monday, December 16th, from 3:30 PM until 5:45PM. Military Honors will be rendered following the service.
Larry will be laid to rest at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
