IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kristine S.
Schmit
February 8, 1955 – August 5, 2024
Mrs. Kristine Schmit passed away at her home in the Town of Fredonia on Monday afternoon, August 5, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family. She was 69 years old.
Kristine was born in Port Washington on February 8, 1955, daughter of Edwin and LaVerne (nee Dickmann) Dollert. The family lived on a farm in the Town of Saukville and Kristine attended local schools, graduating from Ozaukee High School, Class of 1973.
On October 13, 1990, Kristine was united in marriage with Stephen Schmit. The couple settled in the Town of Fredonia.
Mrs. Schmit was a 37 year employee of the US Postal Service, serving at the Port Washington and West Bend offices before becoming postmaster in Random Lake. She further served as the postmaster at the Fredonia post office, a position she retired from in 2017. Kristine was a staunch member of the United Postmasters and Managers of America and made frequent trips to Washington DC for legislative conferences. She was also a longtime member of the Fredonia Lioness Club, and was awarded the Melvin Jones Award.
She was a faithful member of Parkside Community United Church of Christ (formerly St. Peter UCC), where she was very involved up until her health declined. Mrs. Schmit enjoyed sewing, quilting, watching car racing, cheering the Packers and the Brewers, and was an avid reader. Even with all of her other activities, she still found time to help her brothers on the family dairy farm.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Steve, daughter-of-the-heart Michelle (Shaun) Joyce, grandchildren Olivia and Ayden and mother LaVerne Dollert. She is also survived by sisters Diane (Bernie) Heimerl and Bonnie Dollert, brothers Darrell (Cheryl), Daniel, and David Dollert, nieces Brittnee, Tracy, and Brittney, nephews Kyle, Kelly, Lance, and Ryan. Kristine is further survived by brothers- and sister-in-law Joe Schmit, John Schmit and Christine (the late Roger) Janke, other family and friends. Kristine is preceded in death by her father Edwin.
