Ms. Kay Seban passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Belgium Gardens, where she had been residing for the last four years. She was 77 years old.
Kay was born in Fort Wayne, IN on March 16, 1945, daughter of Edward and Mary Fruechte Shaffer. She grew up in Decatur, In and attended local schools, graduating from Monmouth High School. Class of 1963. She later moved to Columbus, In and raised her two boys.
Ms. Seban worked as the night dispatcher for Royal Cab in Columbus for many years but her true passion was running a bird rescue. She ran a sanctuary from her home and rescued many different types of birds, many of whom had special needs or were disabled. She had a cockatoo named Katie that wasn't able to speak, so Kay taught her to communicate through "barks". Known to some as "The Bird Whisperer", Kay had a true gift for helping these birds and would never turn one away if she could help.
When her health began to decline, Kay moved to Wisconsin to be closer to family. She enjoyed the current trend of adult coloring and was an avid reader, preferring books with a lot of action or a biography.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons Edward Seban of Avon, IN and Anton (Keirstin) Seban III of Fredonia, WI, seven grandchildren, other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and twin infant granddaughters.
A private memorial service is being planned for a later date.
The Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements; online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com .
