Mrs. Kathy Shinevar of the Town of Port Washington went home to Heaven Wednesday morning, May 9, 2018, at the age of 75. Kathy was born on December 4, 1942, the daughter of Lawrence and Verna Drydyk Cramer. She grew up in the Town of Sherman and attended St. Mary's Grade School and Random Lake High School. On May 23, 1974, Kathy was united in marriage with Richard Shinevar in Lansing, MI. The couple moved to Port Washington shortly after and in 1980 opened The Health Port, a health food and supplement store located in downtown Port. They later opened "Another Thyme", a restaurant and coffee bar in conjunction with the store, a fore-runner of the locally sourced food-to-table movement that showcased healthy, organic food. In 2003 the store moved to Belgium. Richard preceded Kathy in death in 2015, and she relocated the store back to Port Washington a year later.
Kathy's knowledge of food, vitamins and supplements drew many people to her store; she was certified in nutrition and Iridology and was constantly reading up on new articles and studies to find more ways to help people. Many folks stopped by the store just to chat with Kathy, to find out her opinion on a condition they might have or for her recommendation on a natural or homeopathic remedy to try. Helping people was always her top priority.
Her faith was another very important part of Mrs. Shinevar's life. She was a member of Portview Church in Port Washington, but had also been very involved with the Mercy Seat Church.
Kathy is survived by her daughter Wendy (Roger) Altendorf of Florence, KY, grandson CJ (Sarah) Altendorf and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Altendorf, also of Kentucky, stepson Michael (Roberta) Shinevar and step-daughter Linda (Tim) O'Brian, 9 step-grandchildren and 18 step-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by sister Clarice (Brian) Rusch) of Adell, sister-in-law Sue (the late Noel) Cramer of Random Lake, brother-in-law Wayne (the late Mary Lou) Ustby of Adell, nephews Michael (Michelle) Rusch, Christopher (Katie) Cramer and Scott Cramer, all of Random Lake, and Mark Ustby of Milwaukee, nieces Michelle (Stuart) Gilgannon of Wauwatosa and Jolene (Ron) Neils of Menomonee Falls, other family and many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, May 31 at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave. in Port Washington, Rev. Greg Nuernberg will preside. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home on Thursday, May 31 from 3-6 pm. Kathy and Richard will be laid to rest at the Southern Wisconsin Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove.
