Obituary

Kathleen A. "Kathy" Cocking of Cedarburg passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 18, 2019. She was 72 years old. Kathy was born in Milwaukee on August 3, 1947, to Lester J. and Edith M. (Smole) Nagy. She graduated from Washington High School, Class of 1965. Kathy earned her bachelors degree in education from UW-Milwaukee. In college, she was very active with the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, maintaining close friendships that continue to this day. After graduation, she accepted a teaching position in Wauwatosa. On June 26, 1971, Kathy was united in marriage with Michael Cocking (Mike) at Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for three years while Mike served in the United States Marine Corps. Upon returning to Wisconsin, the couple settled in Wauwatosa before moving to Cedarburg in 1981. Kathy enjoyed teaching English to middle school and high school students in Wauwatosa, Hawaii and Cedarburg, and touched many lives in the process. She was a faithful member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and was a driving force in the Cedarburg Junior Women's Club, where she served in numerous positions including President. She actively contributed to the Cedarburg community by serving on the board of the Cedarburg Community Scholarship Fund, Cedarburg Community Preschool and many Parent Teacher Associations. Kathy maintained close ties to her friends including a group of sorority and teaching friends who attended performances at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre together every year since 1971. Above all, she cherished raising her daughters and taking care of her family, and later she fully embraced her role as "Seanma" to her seven grandchildren. Survivors include her husband Mike of the Town of Cedarburg, and their daughters Colleen (Anthony) Polston of Cedarburg, Meghan (Timothy) Posnanski of Whitefish Bay, and Heather Cocking, also of Cedarburg. She is further survived by her seven beloved grandchildren: Michael, Edith, Ainsley, Jack, Mariel, Norah and James, and her cousin Diane Kopplin of Pewaukee, along with other relatives family many close friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Edith, Aunt Eileen Court and Uncle Chester Smole. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 3:30PM on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church – North, 1375 Covered Bridge Road in Cedarburg. Father Patrick Burns will preside. Mrs. Cocking will be laid to rest at a private service the following day at Resurrection Cemetery, Mequon. The family will greet relatives and friends at the CHURCH on Thursday from 1:30 – 3:15PM. Memorials in Kathy's name may be made to the Cedarburg Community Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 654, Cedarburg, WI 53012. The Eernisse Funeral Home in Cedarburg, Michael Schramka Associate, is assisting the family with arrangements.
