Mr. Karl Leicht of Port Washington passed away at Lincoln Village on Wednesday evening, March 22, 2017. He was 87 years old. Karl was born in Sheboygan on October 30, 1929, son of Karl G. and Viola Hoehnke Leicht. He attended local schools and graduated from Sheboygan Central High School before enlisting in the US Navy. Karl served on the USS Iowa and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. On April 1, 1953 he was united in marriage with Margaret Gross at All Saints Cathedral in Milwaukee.
The couple settled in Sheboygan and started their family. Karl served as an officer on the Sheboygan Police Department for fourteen years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant of Detectives. The family moved to Port Washington and Karl took a position with Bolens Mfg. He retired after more than 25 years on the job, having been both the Personnel Manager and the Transportation Manager. Karl was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Washington and a regular member of the Morning Retiree Coffee Group. He enjoyed snowmobiling, maintaining his immaculate yard, watching the Green Bay Packers, and basic woodworking projects. He was also an alderman with the City of Port Washington, District 7. Following retirement, Karl and Marge enjoyed traveling, especially out west.
Karl is survived by his wife Marge, and their three children: Jeff (Deborah) Leicht of Scottsdale, AZ, Julie Barth of Milwaukee and June (David) Miller of Grafton. He is further survived by 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, his nephew Mark Heronymus of Sheboygan, other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister Marlene Heronymus.
Funeral Services will be held at 1PM on Tuesday, March 28th at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, followed by Military Honors. Pastor John Klieve will preside. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11AM until the service at 1PM. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Mausoleum following the service.
