Mrs. June Gionet, a longtime resident of Walters Street in Port Washington, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Harbor Campus where she had been residing for the last two years. She was 96 years old.
June was born in Dacada on February 3, 1926, daughter of Raymond and Mary (nee Pierron) Sinnen. She attended St. Nicholas Academy for her education and helped her family on the farm.
On November 8, 1947, June was united in marriage with Alfred Makarovich at St. Mary Catholic Church in Port Washington. The couple settled in Port Washington and were blessed with three sons. Alfred preceded June in death in 1964. June later remarried Leo "Lee" Gionet. He preceded her in death in 1982.
June worked in the service department of Tecumseh Products for almost 30 years, retiring in 1991.
She was a longtime member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church (presently St. John XXIII), where she served as part of the Christian Women's group, was a member of American Legion Post 82 Auxiliary, and VFW 5373 Auxiliary. June was a passionate volunteer at the Port Washington Food Pantry for many years. She enjoyed bowling and played in a league well into her 90's. June also enjoyed a good game of cards, particularly Sheepshead, and played with a close group of friends often. She was an avid reader and liked the fiction genre and romance novels.
Survivors include her sons: Mark (Jill) Makarovich of Milwaukee and Paul (Sandi) Makarovich of Atlanta, step-daughters Yvonne (John) Schmidt of Chapel Hill, NC, and Lucie (Lee) Meyer of Babson Park, FL. She is further survived by seven grandchildren: Jason, Mika, Hannah, Suzanne, Tom, Garrett and Dayna. She is further survived by 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. June is preceded in death by husbands Alfred and Leo, son Bruce, twin sister Jean (the late Wilmer "Bill") Depies, brother Raymond (the late Vernita) Sinnen, and nephew Dale Wetor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30AM on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at St. John XXIII (1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington). Father Patrick Wendt will preside.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband Alfred in St. Mary's Cemetery later that day.
Memorials in June's name are suggested to the Port Washington Food Pantry, if desired.
