JUDITH SCHLEIER Judy Schleier a Port Washington resident since 2000 after moving from Milwaukee where she lived for 40 years passed away on April 20 2013 at her daughter's home in Weyauwega WI after a battle with kidney lung and brain cancer. She was born in Lake City MN on March 17 1944 of parents Margaret and Herman Leerssen and graduated from the Lake City High School in 1962. She moved to Milwaukee WI right after graduation where she met her husband William Schleier. They were married on September 181965 and lived happily until William passed away on March 16 2000 from cancer. Judy was a person who loved life meeting people spending time with her friends and family and had a very witty and humorous personality and she was a wonderful listener. Her positive attitude through her health journey showed everyone how blessed she felt that her glass was always full. She loved to travel and her adventurous and competitive spirit led her to try things like racquet ball waterskiing snowmobiling motorcycling hot air balloon riding parasailing in Jamaica white-water rafting on the Snake River in Jackson Hole WY three vacation trips to Europe several cruises and just recently a family cruise to Alaska. She loved reading and her hobbies include Swedish weaving making over 30 afghans and giving them to family and friends as gifts; she also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a passionate sports fan of many sports especially the Packers professional golf and professional tennis (a dream fulfilled by attending the US Open in New York). She was also the oldest member of a competitive bean bag league at her work. She and her family enjoyed every weekend at their lake cottage on Little Silver Lake in Wild Rose WI which has been in the family for four generations. Judy worked as a medical assistant for an MD of internal medicine and then for an ophthalmologist/surgeon. After that she worked as the office manager for the MTEA for 23 years and then as an executive administrative assistant to the General Counsel at Stark Roth Inc. for 13 years; finally retiring in January of 2012. She was active in the water aerobics class at the Feith Family YMCA in Saukville. She also loved being a part of a special group at the YMCA called LiveStrong which is the awesome cancer survivorship program there. She joined the Port Washington Senior Center and tried to keep up with the Chicks with Sticks group or playing cards. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Grafton Judy is survived by her daughter Lisa (John) Fritts and their son Matthew of Weyauwega WI. She is further survived by her brother David (Barbara) Leerssen of Mesquite TX and her sister Lynne Tipcke of Red Wing MN. Judy is preceded in death by her parents Herman and Margaret Leerssen husband William Schleier brother Arthur Leerssen sister-in-law Dorothy Leerssen (nee Garcia) and nephew Dewey Tipcke. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday April 24 2013 at Our Savior Lutheran Church 1332 Arrowhead Road Grafton with Pastor Mark Wagner officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church on Wednesday from 11:00AM-2:00PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Our Savior Lutheran Church or charity of choice.
