Obituary

Mrs. Judy Currie of Port Washington passed away at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton Saturday morning, May 11, 2019, following a valiant battle with cancer. She was 68 years old. Judy was born in Dearborn, MI on March 21, 1951, daughter of Richard H. and Julienne Sibben Steffen. She attended local schools and graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1969. Judy later moved to Virginia where she met a charming gentleman from England; Nick Currie and Judy were united in marriage on August 7, 1976 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. They lived in Texas for two years before moving to Port Washington in 1978 to raise their children. Mrs. Currie centered her life around home and family; she enjoyed decorating, tending her garden and counted cross-stitch. She also liked spending time at the family lake house up north and doting on her grandchildren. Judy had worked part-time as a sales clerk at the Allen Edmonds Shoe Bank in Port Washington for almost 20 years, and had been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband Nick, their children Jenny (Mark) Nisbet of Charlotte, NC and Richard (Jamie) Currie of Waubeka and by her three precious grandchildren: Emily Nisbet, Nicholas and Joanna Currie. Judy is further survived by her mother Julienne Steffen of Port Washington, sisters Carol (the late Henry) Dewey of Taylor, MI and Barb (Peter) Wellenstein of Random Lake, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her father Richard Steffen. A Memorial Mass will be held at 6PM on Thursday, May 16th at St. John's XXIII – St. Mary's Catholic Church, 430 Johnson St., Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Thursday from 5-6PM. If desired, memorials are suggested to any cancer support charity, in Judy's name. The Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington is assisting the family with arrangements; online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com .
