Obituary

JOHN P. WALKER John Walker, formerly of Grafton and Saukville, passed away at his home in Newburg Sunday afternoon, April 22, 2018 at the age of 66. John was born in Chicago, IL on June 18, 1951. He attended local schools before serving in the US Marine Corps. In the early 1970's, John moved to Grafton and found employment at Norstar Aluminum (formerly Kelch). He retired in 2014 as a foreman in the finishing department after more than 30 years on the job. After retirement, John stayed busy by working at Purpora Engineering in Saukville. On August 24, 1984 John was united in marriage with Susan Helminiak. The couple settled in Grafton and later to Saukville. John was a former member of the Grafton Fire Department, the Saukville Moose Lodge, and the Saukville Lions. He enjoyed fishing, especially near Pickerel. He also enjoyed going up north to the family trailer in Crivitz. John loved the people, atmosphere and beaches of Jamaica, and he and Sue vacationed there frequently. As the self-proclaimed "Saukville Jerk", John enjoyed keeping his finger on the pulse of his community; he tended bar at the Railroad Station for several years and enjoyed cooking up specials like "The John Burger" and "John Pizza" for family and friends. He also entered and won a few local chili contests. Survivors include his wife Sue of Newburg, their children Jennifer (Stuart) Engert of West Bend, Steven (Robyn) Walker of Roberts, and Michael (Elena) Walker of Greendale, eight grandchildren: Miranda, Brooke, Brittany, Alex, Hannah, Mariana, Christopher and Anita. He is further survived by brothers Charles and Gene Merrill, both of Indiana, mother-in-law Mary Ann Helminiak of Stevens Point, nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, other family and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Mary Lou (nee Hockapple) Merrill. A Celebration of John's life will take place on June 16th, with times and location to be announced later. The Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements; online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com .
