John Edward Teuscher passed away March 2, 2017 at age 91. Beloved husband of Mary Joyce (nee Charneski) for 66 years, loving father of John (Janice), Dennis (Roberta), and Steve (Debbie), and grandfather to Sarah (Martin) Joyce and Jennifer Teuscher. He is predeceased by his sisters, brothers, and their spouses; Marian (Gale) Brechtel and Shirlene (Frank) Bartos, Robert (Barbara) Teuscher and William (Rose) Teuscher.
John was born on January 26, 1926 to John and Anna Teuscher in Monroe, Wisconsin, where he spent his early years before the family moved to Orangeville, Illinois. He joined the US Navy after high school graduation and was a baker on an LST (landing ship, tank) in the Pacific theater. His ship was part of the historic final battles and from the ship John witnessed the raising of the American flag at Iwo Jima. A proud WWII veteran, John was a lifelong member of the American Legion. He was very honored and appreciative to be part of the first Stars and Stripes Honor Flight for veterans from Milwaukee to Washington D.C. at age 82.
Upon discharge, John returned to Freeport, Illinois where he met and married the love of his life, Mary Joyce. His life was dedicated to his wife and children, whom he supported through his job at Fairbanks Morse. This job brought the family to Beloit, Wisconsin where he also worked as a coremaker at Beloit area foundries. John changed careers to wholesale milk delivery for Muller Pinehurst; where he worked until retirement. John and Joyce spent several winters enjoying the beaches, ocean, and warmth of Gulf Shores, Alabama. They eventually moved to Grafton, Wisconsin to be closer to family.
John was an active 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was past Grand Knight of the St. Thomas Council in Beloit. After moving to Grafton, he was a member of the San Salvador council in Cedarburg. John enjoyed sports; especially the Cubs and the Bears, followed politics, and loved his flower garden and birds. Above all he valued family, faith, and charity. He was always happy and conveyed happiness to all who knew him.
Our sadness has been greatly eased by the outpouring of support from friends. We also wish to acknowledge the kind and loving attention he received from the caregivers at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation in Port Washington and Compassus Hospice over the last year and during his final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 3:00 PM at St. Joseph Parish 1619 Washington Street Grafton, 53024. Father Mike Barrett will preside. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 PM until the time of Mass at 3:00 PM. John will be laid to rest at the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery the following day at 10:00 AM.
