John TeStrake of Grafton passed away peacefully Monday morning, June 24, 2019, at Lasata Care Center. He was 82 years old.
John was born in Muscatine, Iowa on February 7, 1937, son of Ralph TeStrake and Dorothy (nee Danner) Bice. He grew up in Muscatine, graduating from the local High School before enlisting in the US Navy, where he proudly served for more than ten years. On May 19, 1962, John was united in marriage to Phyllis Redlin.
John was employed at Meer Electric as an electrician and retired in 1999. He was a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ in Grafton. John was the founder of the Beer City Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society and loved sharing the history of trucks, the trucking industry and its pioneers. He also collected toy trucks, which had previously been displayed at the Grafton Library.
John is survived by his wife Phyllis and their daughters Kathryn (Shawn) Bowman of Dayton, OH and Linda (Shawn Bartsch) TeStrake of Mequon. He is further survived by three granddaughters: Sara Sue Bowman, Keira and Keighly Bartsch, sister Mary Jo (Lynn) Beauchamp of Dubuque, Iowa and half-brother Mark (Julie) Bice of Phoenix, Arizona. He is further survived by other family and friends. John is preceded in death by his parents.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 1621 2nd Ave., Grafton. Pastor Ashley Nolte will preside. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM. Immediately following the service, John will be laid to rest with Military honors in Woodlawn Cemetery, Grafton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to The Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation or the Pilgrim United Church of Christ.
