Mr. John Mikyska of Saukville, passed away at Lawlis Family Hospice Center in Mequon early Monday morning, July 10, 2017. He was 74 years. John was born in Tony, WI on April 27, 1943 to John C. and Verene Timblin Mikyska.
He grew up in Ladysmith, attending local schools and graduating from Flambeau High School with the Class of 1961, before enlisting in the United States Army. Sonny served in Viet Nam where he received numerous service metals, including a bronze star. On April 18, 1967 John was united in marriage with Janet Richardson in Milwaukee. The couple settled in the Saukville area in the early 1970's and raised their family. She preceded him in death in 2006. Sonny had recently remarried to Susan (nee Johnson) on June 1, 2017 in Port Washington.
John worked as a Maintenance Superintendent at Tecumseh Power Products in Grafton for many years. He later retired from Hessco in Saukville.
John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trap shooting. Sonny was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Whitetails Unlimited, Saukville Rod & Gun Club, and Landt- Theil American Legion Post 470 in Saukville. John also loved spending time with his family at the cabin in Crivitz.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Saukville, his two sons John (Monica Jansen) Mikyska III of Cedarburg & Adam Mikyska of Kewaskum and four grandchildren: Jessica, Donovan, Gavin and Regan. He is also survived by six siblings: ReaAnn Fleenor of Port Washington, David (Karen) Mikyska of West Bend, Bill (Ann) Mikyska of Grafton, Kathi (Daryl) Kinnear of Ladysmith, Rose Farias of Germantown and Mary Rutz of Apache Junction, AZ. Further survivors include sister-in-law Joyce Mikyska of Hudson, FL, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife Janet, brother Stanley Mikyska and sisters Gloria Mierow and Alice Thorhaug.
The family will receive visitors at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, on Tuesday, July 18th from 4-7PM, followed by Military Honors at 7PM. Online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com.
