John Maynard, of Cedarburg, formerly of Port Washington and Shorewood, passed away on January 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old.
John was born on August 17, 1940, in Milwaukee, to the late Lyle and Olga (nee Skrener) Maynard. John attended Shorewood High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and graduated with the class of 1958. He pursued his higher education at Milwaukee Institute of Technology and Marquette University.
On October 26, 1968, John exchanged vows with the love of his life, Margaret "Peggy" Mulroy, at St. Rita's Catholic Church in West Allis. Their enduring love and unwavering support for each other set an example for their children and grandchildren.
John dedicated 42 years of his career in Risk Management at Johnson Controls, a renowned manufacturing company based in Milwaukee. He exemplified professionalism, dedication, and leadership throughout his tenure, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues. In 2006, John retired, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in his field.
A man of faith, John was a member of St. John XXIII Parish in Port Washington, where he found solace and community. He was also a cherished member of the Port Washington Senior Center, where he enjoyed engaging in spirited card games and was a proud member of the Green Felt Club. While in college, John was a member of Alpha Nu Beta Fraternity, where he forged lifelong friendships with his fraternity brothers.
John found fulfillment in supporting his children and grandchildren's sporting events and extracurricular activities. He was a constant presence on the sidelines, cheering passionately and celebrating their achievements with boundless pride. John's unwavering love, kindness, and commitment to his loved ones will forever remain etched in their hearts.
John is survived by his wife Peggy of Cedarburg, his three children: Elizabeth (Chris) Zurich of Pittsburgh, PA, Joan (Jon) Reik of Cedarburg, and Kevin Maynard of Port Washington. He is further survived by five loving grandchildren: Sean, Calen, and Eiley Zurich and Anna and Liza Reik, 3 sisters-in-law: Eileen (Kearn) Lee, Maureen Mulroy and Diann Mulroy, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Olga, and his brother-in-law Patrick Mulroy.
Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating John's remarkable life and bidding him farewell during the funeral services that will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington. Visitation will be held from 11 AM until the time of the funeral service at 1 PM. Father Patrick Wendt will preside over the funeral service.
He will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery in Port Washington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Port Washington Senior Center.
