After a brief illness, Cedarburg resident John R. Lombardi passed away on Friday February 9, 2018 at the Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. John was born in Milwaukee on April 29, 1942 the son of Henry and Dora (nee Monaco) Lombardi. After graduating from Whitefish Bay High School he went on to serve his country in the US Army. John had a long career as a machine builder at the Paper Machinery Corporation in Milwaukee. He was affectionally known as the "Mayor of Highwood Drive" in his Cedarburg neighborhood. In his home workshop, John used his machine building skills to create intricate wooden toys. Many of the toys were wooden models of trucks and heavy equipment vehicles with moving parts and gears.
He is survived by his sister, Christine (the late Jack) Ryan: nieces and nephews,Tony (Susan) Fazio, Christine (David Lorenz) Fazio, Kathy (Greg) Poshepny, Patty (the late Jim) Barnes, Julie (Mark) Hansen, Rebecca (Nico Mocci) Lombardi, Robert Raab and Paul (Jana) Lombardi, and sister-in-law, Eve Lombardi. Also survived by great-nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Eda (the late Tony) Fazio, George Lombardi and Norma (the late Don) Connors.
There will be a Memorial Mass at 12:00 PM on Saturday February 17, 2018 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church-North, 1375 Covered Bridge Rd, Cedarburg, WI 53012. The family will greet relatives and friends on Sat. at the church from 11:00 AM until time of Mass, and at a reception to be held following the Mass. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, appreciated.
