JOHN J. HAMES John J. Hames age 87 years of 1352 W. Green Lake Road West Bend died Monday Jan. 14 2008 at his residence. He was born October 16 1920 in Waubeka son of the late Joseph and Irene Kramer Hames. On March 14 1942 he married Alice Monday in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death in 2007. John proudly served his country with distinction in the US Army in the South Pacific during WW II. He lived in Waubeka for 60 years where he and Alice operated Hames Nursery Landscape Contractors Inc. before moving to Green Lake Town of Farmington. He earned many state and federal landscape contracts on the interstate highway system. His many achievements in the community included founding the National Flag Day Foundation of which he held the office of President for 48 years. Chief of the Waubeka Fire Dept. for 20 years President of the former Grandview School Board President of the Badger Firemen's Assoc. for 2 years past Commander and life member of Waubeka VFW Flag Day Post 7037 and chairmen of the State of Wisconsin VFW Flag Day Committee from 1946 - 1972. He is survived by two sons Dennis of Waubeka and Steven of Monona his daughter Sara (Ronald) Nagy of Pewaukee six grandchildren Christine (David) Vogt Andrea (Bruce) Gierach Michael (Becky) Hames T.J. Baranek Kelsey Lurvey and Tammy Hames seven great grandchildren his sister Virginia (the late Carl) Tacke of Brookfield and Teresa Hames. He was preceded in death by his parents his wife one sister Marie and brother Joey. Funeral Thursday eve. Jan. 17 6 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington with Rev. Don Niederfrank officiating. Burial in Waubeka Union Cemetery. In state Thursday from 4-6 PM.
