Obituary

John Bohlen, of the Town of Saukville, passed away of natural causes in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 10, 2024. He was 85 years old.

John was born on the family farm on Cedar Sauk Road to Phillip Bohlen and Lucille (Grandy) Bohlen on July 30, 1938. He grew up on the farm and attended the local schools in the Saukville area. John learned a great deal about agriculture and animal husbandry from his dad. He served one tour in the U.S. Army.

On October 8, 1960, John married Sharon Marcus in Port Washington, Wisconsin. They bought a farm on State Road 33 in 1963 and raised their family there. They spent over 60 years together. John worked as a shift supervisor at Simplicity Manufacturing until he retired.

John loved planting trees and was very successful in planting maple, pine, spruce, and walnut seedlings all over the farm. He loved a neat and tidy yard and would spend hours mowing and weeding the property to keep it looking good. John hated clutter and was very organized – everything had a place. John never met a sweet he did not like, but he especially loved cookies, pastries, and anything chocolate. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg.

John is survived by two children: Sue (Mark) Grebenor of San Antonio, TX and Deb (Bob) Wagner of Saukville, WI. He is further survived by three grandsons: Nick (Skyler) Grebenor, Jake Wagner, and Zach Wagner, one great-grandson Landry Grebenor and two sisters Rosie (the late Herb) Kuehne of Ann Arbor, MI and Lucy (Joe) Mortl of Tucson, AZ, nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sharon Bohlen, who preceded him in death in December of 2022, three brothers Ralph, Eugene, and Joseph and two sisters Catherine (the late John) Touchet and Phyllis (the late Roman) Peters, son Timothy Bohlen, and grandson Thomas Bohlen.

A Funeral Mass celebrating John's life will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at  Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 521 Congress St, Newburg, WI 53060. The family will greet friends and relatives at the CHURCH from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Father Don Zerkel will be presiding over the mass. John will be laid to rest next to his wife and son at Holy Trinity Cemetery after the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center whose care team provided outstanding care and compassion to John and his family.
