Obituary

John H. Best, of Milwaukee passed away at Ascension St. Mary's in Milwaukee, on May 11, 2024. He was 83 years old.

He was born November 4, 1940, to the late Charles and Louise (Loechler) Best, in Glenwood City, Wisconsin. He attended local schools before proudly serving in the United States Army.

On June 20, 1964, John was united in marriage with Ann Dralle in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They spent over 60 years together.

In his early years, John developed a passion for golf and proudly served as a veteran. His dedication and leadership led him to assume pivotal roles at various local VFW Posts. John derived immense joy from playing cards and dominos with his siblings, often setting and breaking winning records, showcasing his competitive spirit in every game.

John pursued a successful career as a Layout Lab Inspector, contributing his skills to the renowned Harley Davidson company. Even after his retirement, he remained an active member of the Harley Davidson Retirees club, cherishing the camaraderie and memories shared with fellow enthusiasts.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Ann Best, daughter Catherine (nee Best) Turk, his daughter-in-law Sarah (nee Heuring) Best, his grandchildren, John Henry Best III, Olivia Dyvling, Victoria, and Lauren Best. He is also survived by his siblings; Mary Best, Eugene (Susan) Best, Elizabeth (Irv) Wargolet, Judith (Michael) Hazard, Martha (Michael) Wilcoxson, Patricia (Kelly) Gibson and his sisters-in-law Colleen Best and Judy Best.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son John Henry Best, his siblings, Joseph (Terri), Michael, David, and Edward Best, and his son-in-law Gerald Turk.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Our Lady of Good Hope, 7152 N. 41 Street, Milwaukee. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. John will be laid to rest with military honors at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
