John Anton Pohl age 88 passed away at his home on Monday February 13 2012. He was born May 16 1923 the oldest son of Anton and Mary Bettendorf Pohl. He was born on the Pohl homestead in the town of Belgium. John married Lucy Weiler on October 8 1952 at St. Francis Catholic Church Hollandtown in Brown County Wisconsin. They were dairy and crop farmers on the land John had purchased in 1944 also in the town of Belgium. He was a good farmer and excellent mechanic capable of repairing his tractors and farm machinery. John especially loved to travel with his family visiting most of the lower 48 states. He planned his travels to be educational and fun. He was an avid reader interested since youth in nature science and electrical power. John's first language at the Pohl homestead was Luxembourgish and he loved to converse with friends and neighbors who also spoke the language. He was a member of the Wisconsin Luxembourg Society. John and Lucy were honored as the Duke and Duchess of the Luxembourg Festival in 1992. A yellow rose bush brought to America by his great grandmother Catherine Kaiser Pohl who immigrated from Filsdorf Luxembourg still blooms alongside the familiy's dairy barn. John was a patient kind and devoted husband and father; even tempered and sweet spirited. He loved to share a joke or funny story. He laughed and smiled more often than not. He was thankful for God's abundant daily gifts and remembered with gratitude the hard earned legacy of his parents and ancestors. Above all John was a great blessing to his family and everyone he met.
