Joanne Mary Schmit of Saukville was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 with her family at her side. She was 82. Joanne was born on April 15, 1940 to Emil and Loretta (Jacoby) Gonwa in Sheboygan. She was united in marriage to George Schmit on May 19, 1962 at St. Nicholas in Dacada. Prior to her retirement, Joanne was employed as a registered nurse and worked at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital and was a pioneer in the EMS system of Ozaukee County. She was a devoted member of St. John XXIII Catholic Parish – Immaculate Conception in Saukville. Joanne belonged to a master gardening club and enjoyed tending to her flowers and vegetables. She was an avid reader and volunteered at the local library as well as the Saukville Food Pantry. Joanne appreciated a good game of sheepshead, her friends from her Monday breakfast group and watching movies. Joanne is survived by her 3 children Brian (Michelle) Schmit, Ann (John) Pechstein, and Allan (Paula) Schmit; 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, son Mark; sister Janet and brother Ronald. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM, on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at St. John XXIII Catholic Parish- Immaculate Conception Chapel, 145 W. Church St. Saukville, WI. Fr. Patrick Wendt will preside. The family will receive visitors at the church from 9:00AM until the time of service. Joanne will be placed next to her husband at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Saukville. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Ozaukee County Food Pantry.
