Joan Michaels Mrs. Joan Michaels age 76 years of Wauconda IL formerly of Waubeka and West Bend passed away on Thursday May 31 2007 at her residence. She was born on April 18 1931 in West Bend daughter of the late Harold Mapes Sr. and Dorothy Boerger Mapes. On September 16 1950 she married Walter Wally Michaels at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend. He preceded her in death in 1999. In 2002 she moved into her own condo next to her daughter in Wauconda IL. Joan was a former member of the Waubeka Flag Day VFW Auxiliary Post 7037. She also enjoyed antiquing and loved spending time with her friends and family especially with her granddaughter Laura. Joan is survived by one daughter Bonnie (nee Michaels) Valkman and her husband Greg Valkman of Wauconda IL and her granddaughter Laura Valkman She is further survived by 2 brothers John (Karen) Mapes of Weyauwega WI and Harold (Betty) Mapes Jr. of West Bend and one sister Mary (Nick) Thanos also of West Bend nieces nephews other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Wally. Memorial services will be held on Friday June 8th at 7:30 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington with Father Richard Fleischman from Holy Rosary Parish Fredonia officiating. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Friday June 8th from 5:30 PM until the time of services. The Eernisse Funeral Home Port Washington is assisting the family.
