Joan E. Ewe

Long-time Lasata Senior Living Campus resident Joan Ewe passed away at the Lasata Care Center on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the age of 95.

Joan Ellen Czerniak was born in Milwaukee, WI, on February 19, 1931, the daughter of Martin and Mary (nee Goralski) Czerniak. She graduated from Messmer High School in 1949. Joan was united in Holy Matrimony to Donald "Don" Ewe for over 50 years.

Joan and Don were long-time active members at St. Bernadette Catholic Church on Milwaukee's Northwest side. Joan went on to run the food service program for St. Bernadette's Grade School for nearly 12 years. In 1982, Joan opened The Peddler's Corner gift shop in the Cedar Creek Settlement. She owned and operated the gift shop for 32 years until retiring due to declining health.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law Denise Ewe; grandchildren Emily (Gustavo) Alcaide and Kaitlyn (Dylan) Schielke; great-grandchildren Leonel and Arabella Alcaide; brother-in-law Robert "Bob" Ewe, nephews Brian (Laurie) McArthur, Larry (Mary) McArthur, along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, and her son Mark.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM on Friday July 10, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Parish, 1619 Washington St in Grafton, WI. Burial St. Joseph Cemetery. Joan's family will greet relatives and friends on Friday at the Church from 10 - 11:00 AM and at a reception at the Church, following the cemetery committal. 

Appreciation to all the staff at Lasata Senior Living Campus for providing many years of excellent care. In lieu of flowers, the family is collecting towards placing a memorial brick in the Cedarburg downtown walkway, by the bike path to honor Joan and the Peddler's Corner.
