Obituary

Mrs. Janet Laubenstein formerly of Hwy C in the Town of Port Washington passed away peacefully at Harbor Cove in Port Washington on Sunday morning January 21 2007. She was 90 years old. Janet was born in the Town of Port on February 17 1916 daughter of Frank and Emma Hansmann Maechtle. Janet attended Port Washington High School and graduated with the Class of 1938. On May 31 1947 she was united in marriage with Albert Laubenstein at the former Evangelical United Brethren Church in Port Washington. He preceded her in death in 1977. During World War II Janet worked at the Pants Factory in Cedarburg making pants for the military. Mrs. Laubenstein worked for many years as a waitress at different establishments around the area including the Beacon Restaurant in West Bend Kratzer's Restaurant Harry's Restaurant and the former Meyer Hotel (currently the Port Hotel). She also worked at Fromm Laboratories and later retired from Lakes Central Leather in Grafton where she had worked in Quality Control. Janet was a life-long member of the Grand Ave. United Methodist Church in Port Washington where she sang in the choir and served on various committees. She also sang in the Ozaukee Chorus and at the Port Washington Senior Center as well as playing the piano for sing-a-longs at Heritage Nursing Home. Mrs. Laubenstein enjoyed crocheting embroidery and cooking. She was an accomplished traveler who enjoyed Otte bus tours as well as international and many stateside journeys. Mrs. Laubenstein is survived by her daughter Dawn (Alfred) Wegner of Waubeka 2 grandchildren: Jennifer (Brian) Hodgson of Port Washington and Miles Wegner of Waubeka. She is further survived by a sister Helen Maechtle of Port Washington other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents her husband and a brother Harvey Maechtle. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday January 24th 7PM at the Grand Ave. United Methodist Church 505 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington. Pastor David Guse will officiate. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Union Cemetery Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the Church on Wednesday from 5-7PM. Memorials are suggested to the family. The Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington is assisting the family. br /Service:br /7:00 PM at 505 W.
