Obituary

Janet Ann (nee Sleik) La Grow, raised in Iron Mountain, MI, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2019 at her home in Saukville, WI. Born in London, England to Frank Sleik Sr. and Kathleen (Kay) Dorothy (nee Day) Sleik, during World War II, on July 30, 1944. After the War they returned to Frank's home in Iron Mountain, MI. She attended Amidon Grammar School and Iron Mountain High School. As a young adult, she moved to Milwaukee, WI where she met Dane W. La Grow. The two quickly fell in love and married on November 5, 1966. Janet enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening. She took great pride in her yard as a Master Gardener. She loved taking trips across the rolling countryside to explore and wander with her husband finding new shops, historical markers and beautiful views. On many trips they also shared their love of history with their grandchildren. She was truly a caring and thoughtful wife, mother, sister, friend and Grammy. Janet was an authentic soul. Her smile and energy lit up the room and her wonderful sense of humor and joy was contagious. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. Janet had a successful career in the art of Human Resources specializing in safety as an advocate to leadership showing them the way to make people appreciative and loyal. Her last role was with Ataco Steel Products Corporation before she retired. She had a way of making each person feel valued and special beyond words in her career and home life. Above everything was family, Janet loved to have her children and grandchildren over. She adored birthdays and Holidays spent with them. Janet was the biggest supporter of her Grandchildren's events, games, concerts, and plays. She attended everything, and you could hear her in the audience or stands rooting them on the loudest. Janet leaves behind her best friend and loving husband of 52 years, Dane W. La Grow, sons, Dean (Lori) LaGrow, Douglas La Grow, and daughter Lisa (Steven Masslich) La Grow Masslich and their three lovely children that called Janet, "Grammy" Gwynne, Ava, and Charli (one of the best gifts a child can give their parents), sister Beverly Rose, brothers Frank Sleik, James Sleik, sisters-in law Debbie Sleik, Nanette Petts, many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her youngest brother Dennis Sleik, her parents Frank and Kay Sleik, brothers in-law John Petts and Samuel Rose and nephew Tony Sleik. The family would like to thank Horizon Hospice for assisting the family with her end of life care. To honor Janet's legacy there will be a Celebration of Life on February 9, 2019 at 2:00 PM CST at St. Paul's ELCA Lutheran Church (705 Grand Ave, Random Lake, WI 53075).
