Obituary

Mr. Jim Wester, of Port Washington, passed away surrounded by his loving family in the morning hours of Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Harbor Cove where he had been a resident. He was 94 years old. Jim was born in the Town of Belgium on December 15, 1927, son of Aloys Wester and Rose (Ansay) Wester. Jim grew up on the family farm and attended school at St. Mary's School in Lake Church and graduated from Port Washington High School with the class of 1945. He served his country in the National Guard in the 32nd Division as a staff sergeant from 1948 until 1953. On April 14, 1951, Jim married Lucille Schmitz at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Dacada and settled in Port Washington to start their family. Jim worked for over 38 years as a truck driver for Schmitz Ready Mix. Jim is a member of St. John XXIII Parish - St. Peter of Alcantara Church, where he used to usher. He was also a member of the Green Felt Pool Club in Port Washington. He enjoyed playing golf, collecting beer cans and coins, genealogy, reading, bird watching, was very handy around the house and loved his yard. Jim and Lucille also loved to travel and were able to see 49 out of the 50 states. Survivors include his wife of 71 years Lucille of Port Washington, their three children: Gerald Wester of Grafton, and Brian (Kathy) Wester of Cedarburg, and Jean (Curt) Cash of Hartford. He is further survived by six grandchildren: Andrea (Andy) Bosanec, Alyssa (Greg) Ritger, Mike Wester, Emily Wester, Eric (Erin) Wester, and Teri (Rick) Hayes, 10 great-grandchildren, one sister Mary (Gordon) Thill of Fredonia, his sister-in-law Adeline Schmitz, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Serena, his brother Bert (the late Verena) Wester, two sisters Beatrice (the late Herb) Krier and Blanche (the late Robert) Thill, and two brothers-in-law Harvey Schmitz and Donald (the late Mary Margaret) Schmitz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John XXIII Parish – St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington on Friday, April 29th at 6:00 PM, preceded by visitation at the church from 4-6 PM. Father Patrick Wendt will be the celebrant. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Mausoleum in Port Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to St. John XXIII Parish.
