Jim Ludwig of Port Washington, formerly of Illinois, passed away at his home on Friday, June 18, 2021. He was 87 years old. James was born in Kattowitz, Germany, on October 6, 1933, son of Karl G. and Margarete Oberwetter Ludwig. As a young man, Jim immigrated to the United States and attended school in the Chicago area before he enlisted in the United States Army; in the Army he trained with the Engineering Corps. He worked as an architect in the Chicago area after he returned from service. On December 2, 1994, James was united in marriage with Deanna Donarski in Oak Park, IL. The couple lived in Schaumburg, IL and Arlington Heights, IL, and later moved to Port Washington in 2016. Following a stroke in 1996, the main focus of Jim's design work shifted to architecture that was friendly to those with mobility issues; his company, DEL Consultants, specialized in adaptive design relating to compliance with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). Jim's other interests included airplanes, sailboats, computers and gadgets of all sorts. Those left to cherish his memories include his wife Deanna of Port Washington, his children Karl, George and Karen, sister Gisela and cousin Uta. He is further survived by five grandchildren, his sister-in-law Joanna, brother-in-law Jason, nephews in- law Lucas and Eli, father in -law Don other family and many, many friends.
