It is with a heavy heart to share that long time Cedarburg resident, Jim Dhein passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday March 16, 2026, at the age of 85.
James Hubert Dhein was born in Sheboygan on May 23, 1940, the son of Woodrow and Esther (nee Sommer) Dhein. After graduating in 1958 from Central High School in Sheboygan, Jim proudly served his country in the US Army. Recently Jim was able to participate in a Honor Flight to Washington DC, to honor those who served and sacrificed alongside of him. He had an amazing trip with his son Pat who accompanied him on the trip and was welcomed home by his entire family. Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge, Jim was united in Holy Matrimony to Joyce Scharenbroch on August 14th, 1965, in Sheboygan.
He then began a long and successful career in fire protection. Initially working for Grinnell Fire Protection for 18 years, then moving to J.F Ahern where Jim started and oversaw the entire fire protection line of business. He retired after 26 years of service at J.F. Ahern. Jim was an active member of the Cedarburg community, and was a member of the Cedarburg/Grafton Rotary Club.
In retirement Jim and Joyce enjoyed wintering in Fountain Hills, AZ as well as participated in every activity or sporting event of all seven of his grandchildren. From the baseball field to the swimming pool, hockey rink or soccer pitch - Jim was there to watch and support what his grandkids loved to do. His love of his family was his main priority to ensure they were loved and looked after.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years Joyce; children Patrick (Sara) Dhein, Susan (Mike) Greene, Sara (Chris) Smith and Paula (Cameron) Cook; grandchildren Allison and Joshua Greene, Emily, Ben and Patrick Smith and, Tyler and Mackenzie Cook; brother Ralph (LuEllen) Dhein, along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Woodrow and Esther Dhein, and brothers Donald Dhein and Gerald Dhein. A private family committal service with Military Honors will be held to honor Jim’s life and his final resting place will be at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery in Mequon.
Jim’s family would like to thank the administration and nursing staff of the Lasata Care Center for their compassionate care during Jim’s recent stay there.
