Obituary

Jacob Kruisnbsp;Mr. Jake Kruis of Ramaker Ave. in Cedar Grove passed away Wednesday January 19 at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center in Sheboygan after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 87 years old. Jake was born August 25 1923 in Sheboygan the son of Henry and Anna DenBoer Kruis. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in the early 1940rsquo;s. In May of 2010 Jake had the opportunity to participate in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight trip to Washington DC. nbsp;On November 11 1947 he was united in marriage with Caroline Wykhuis in Cedar Grove. Mr. Kruis worked for Wisconsin Electric in the mechanical and steam division and retired in 1985. Jake was a member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove and the Van Der Jagt ndash; De Bruine American Legion Post #338. In his younger years Jake had been a renowned fast pitch softball pitcher. He enjoyed golf bowling and woodworking.nbsp; Jake is survived by his wife Caroline of 63 years and their children: Fern ldquo;Paulardquo; (John) Miller of Mt. Calvary Carter (Katie) Kruis of Oostburg and Todd (Cindy) Kruis of Cedar Grove. He is further survived by four grandchildren: Andy Mike and Mark Kruis and Caroline Kruis three step-grandchildren: Jennifer (fianceacute;e Jay Dalzin) Fetzer Jacqueline (Stuart) Roell and Jay (Heather) Miller numerous step great-grandchildren and step great-great-grandchildren two brothers: Herman Kruis of Bellflower CA and Henry (Fran) Kruis Jr. of Oostburg five sisters: Lillian Smith of Bellflower CA Marion (Bob) Staley of Arlington Heights IL nbsp;Laverne (Elwood) Soerens of Sheboygan Falls Irene (Don) Schmit of Sheboygan Falls Betty Erickson of Sheboygan sisters-in-law Ruth Kruis and Mary Wykhuis both of Oostburg brother-in-law Burt Wykhuis of Oostburg nieces nephews other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by infant granddaughter Clarissa Kruis brother Lester Kruis and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday January 22 2011 at First Reformed Church 237 S. Main St. in Cedar Grove. He will be laid to rest in Cedar Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight. The family will receive visitors at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM - 12:00 noon. The Eernisse Funeral Home Belgium is assisting the family with arrangements.
