Ivy Piyiotis passed away at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon on Saturday, March 7, 2026. She was 76 years old.
Ivy was born in Milwaukee, the daughter of Leonard and Sara (nee Friedman) Edelstein. She attended local schools, graduating from Washington High School, going on to earn her degree at UW Milwaukee.
Ivy became a teacher before following her adventurous spirit to Las Vegas. She enjoyed traveling, living in London, Amsterdam, and the Bahamas before returning to Las Vegas. She was united in marriage with Hassan M. Hawwass and the couple remained happily married until his death in 2025.
While in Las Vegas, Ivy taught in the local schools for several years. Eventually she worked in the gaming industry. She had an eye for beautiful things and loved gifting items to others, frequently making someone’s day with a small, thoughtful gesture.
Ivy moved back to Wisconsin in 2021 with her husband, taking up residence near her family.
Survivors include her brother Jeffrey (Margaret) Edelstein of Saukville, sister Reva (Greg) Broemer of New Berlin, nieces Elizabeth (David) Klante and Kaela Broemer, nephew Benjamin Edelstein (Kate Wargin). She is further survived by great-niece Anne Klante and great-nephew Samuel Klante, other family and friends. Ivy is preceded in death by her husband Hassan, and her parents Leonard and Sara Edelstein.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Immanuel Cemetery on Hamilton Road in Cedarburg. Ivy will be laid to rest beside her husband.
