Irmgard Buchel, Of Port Washington, formerly of Random Lake, passed away in the morning hours of Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Ellen's Home in Port Washington where she had been a resident. She was 91 years old. Irmgard was born in Milwaukee on June 19, 1930, daughter of Eugene Handschel and Gertrude Hartelt Handschel. On September 16, 1952, she married Walter Buchel in Milwaukee. Irmgard and Walter owned and operated Buchel's Colonial House Restaurant in Port Washington from 1976 until they sold the restaurant to their son Joe and his wife Susan in 1984. Irmgard worked mostly behind the scenes at Buchel's but could also be found many nights as the hostess, sharing her unique "gemuetlichkeit". Irmgard was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish in Random Lake. She enjoyed reading and knitting. All her grandchildren have a beautiful pair of hand knitted socks from her. Irmgard also enjoyed volunteering at St. Mary's School in Random Lake, where she helped with the hot lunch program. She got sheer enjoyment from being with her family. Irmgard is survived by her children Joseph (Susan) Buchel of Cedarburg and Lori (Jeff) Hubing of Random Lake. She is further survived by four grandchildren: Benjamin (Nicole), Danielle (Mark), Christopher, and Megan (Adam), seven great-grandchildren: Anika, Felix, Greta, Liesl, Sammy, Ollie, and Timmy, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Walter and her sister Adelheid (the late John) Lakota. In accordance with Irmgard's wishes, private family services will be held. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Holy Cross Cemetery, Milwaukee. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, Random Lake, or Ellen's Home in Port Washington.
