Irene Martha Treppish, of Saukville, formerly of Belgium, passed away at Kathy Hospice in West Bend on November 15, 2019. She was 90 years old. Irene was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 9, 1929. She was the daughter of Carl and Bertha (Price) Eichler. Irene held close to her faith throughout her life beginning with her baptism on February 10, 1929. She belonged to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and was confirmed on March 28, 1942.
During her junior and senior year, she was in choir and drove the Christin School Bus, later graduating from Custer High School. Irene and her sister Florence belonged to the Bell Canto Choir and sang "The Messiah" at the Garfield Theater in Milwaukee.
Irene was a Grey Lady volunteer for the Red Cross and Civil Defense during the atomic bomb scare in the 1950's. She was also a nurse's aid at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Port Washington and the Ozaukee County Nurses program.
In June of 1947 Irene was united in marriage to Eugene Treppish. The couple moved to Belgium in 1964. Together they joined St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Washington. She was a volunteer usher, assisted with missionary league and the altar guild. She was known as the card lady because she always sent cheery cards to people at just the right time!Irene willingly helped wherever help was needed in her nursing career as well as her church.
Irene is survived by her children: Beth (Mark) Powell of Brookfield, Kit Klemp of Crandon and Dwight (Wendy Torke) Schwab of Random Lake, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, daughter- in- law Debra Treppish, sister Margaret (Richard) Strand of Saukville and brother Elmer Eichler of Sussex. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband Eugene, son Keith, son-in-law Duane Klemp, sister Florence (Kenneth) Sutter and sister-in-law Audrey (Kies) Eichler.
Funeral services for Irene will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at 6:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church 217 N. Freeman Drive Port Washington, Wisconsin 53074. Rev. John Klieve will preside. Irene's family will receive visitors from 4:00 PM until the time of the service at 6:00 PM. Irene will be laid to rest next to her husband Eugene the following day during a small family gathering at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church are appreciated.
