Obituary

HOWARD H. HIMSTEDT HOWIE Mr. Howie Himstedt formerly of 2nd Ave. in Port Washington passed away Sunday morning June 30th 2013 at Anita's Garden in Port Washington where he had been residing for the last few years. He was 94 years old. Howard was born on January 26 1919 in the Town of Fredonia son of Herman and Frieda Janke Himstedt. After attending local schools Howie joined the US Army Air Force and served during World War II as a munitions worker. He was stationed overseas in Naples Foggia Rome-Arno Burma India and China. Following his service Howie moved back home. On October 18 1947 he was united in marriage with Mary Duman in Port Washington. The couple settled in town and raised their family. Mary preceded Howie in death in 1982. Mr. Himstedt worked as a mason and equipment manager for the City of Port Washington for over 25 years retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fredonia as well as being a member and former Chaplain for American Legion Warren Kane Post 410 and VFW Post 5373. Howie enjoyed bowling. He was always building things and had been a surveyor in his younger days. Mr. Himstedt is survived by his son Dwight (Donna) Himstedt of Fond du Lac grandsons Bill (Nicole) Himstedt of Sherwood and Brad Himstedt of Appleton and four sisters: Grace Scholz of Grafton Sylvia (Merlin) Gerner of Saukville Verna Schallock of Cedarburg and Ardell (Leland) Townsend of Lomira. He is further survived by nieces nephews other relatives and many dear friends. Mr. Himstedt is preceded in death by his wife and two brothers-in-law. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday July 3 at St. John's Lutheran Church 824 Fredonia Ave. Fredonia. Rev. Robert Zick will preside. Military Honors will follow the service. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in the church cemetery at a later date. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Wednesday from 11AM-1PM with a Military Walk-Through at 12:30PM. Memorials are suggested in Howie's name to St. John's Lutheran Church. The Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
