Mr. Herb Possley, formerly of Antoine Drive in Port Washington, passed away Tuesday morning, November 8, 2016, at Cedar Gardens Assisted Living in Cedar Grove, where he had resided for the last 5 years. He was 96 years old.
Herb was born in Fredonia on January 27, 1920, son of Michael and Margaret Petesch Possley. Following his schooling, Herb proudly served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was united in marriage with Josephine Port at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington. The couple settled in Port shortly thereafter. She preceded him in death in 1969. He later married Bernadine (Augustin) Hoffmann at St. Peter's of Alcantara Catholic Church in Port Washington on August 17, 1972. She preceded him in death in 2008.
Mr. Possley worked at Kohring Manufacturing, later Trak International, for many years, retiring in 1982.
Herb was a member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, currently St. John XXIII Parish, as well as a member of VFW Post 5373. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, playing cribbage and sheepshead, and was well known for his smiles and hugs. A long-time season ticket holder to the Green Bay Packers, he liked watching both professional and college sports.
Herb is survived by five children: Rosanne (Dennis) Ryer of Kansas City, MO, John (Sherry) Possley of Cedar Grove, Raymond (Rose) Hoffmann of Waukesha, Eileen (Bruce) Friesch of Pewaukee and Robert (Sharon) Hoffmann of Sugar Hills, GA. He is further survived by 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren - with two twin great-grandchildren soon to be born, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his wives Josephine and Bernadine, brother Raymond Possley and sister Mildred Caporali.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, November 12th, at St. John XXIII Parish- St. Peter of Alcantara Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the CHURCH on Saturday from 10AM until services at 12 noon. A walk-through for VFW Post 5373 will take place at 11:30 AM.
