Mr. Herbert Schaefer a lifelong Port Washington resident passed away Tuesday February 25 2014 at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton. He was 96 years old. Herbert was born March 15 1917 in Port Washington the son of Charles Schaefer and Ida Scharl. He graduated from Port Washington High School in 1935. On November 25 1939 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Betty Wolovlek at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Washington. Betty preceded him in death in 2004. For many years Herbert worked at Muehlberg Gravel Company in Port Washington before working for the Ozaukee County Highway Department until his retirement. He was a member of Friedens Ev. Church as well as the oldest retired member of the Port Washington Fire Department where he served for 21 years. He had enjoyed bowling golfing and playing sheepshead. Herbert is survived by his son Gerald Jerry (Suzi) Schaefer of Port Washington and two grandchildren: Beth (John) Geffers of Oshkosh and Steve (Jes) Schaefer of Port Washington. He is further survived by 4 great-grandchildren: Sydney Isaac Christian and Elise sisters-in-law Edna Schaefer of Saukville and Elenore Schaefer of Port Washington nieces nephews other relatives and friends. Herbert is preceded in death by his brothers Raymond Walter Iggy and Charles (Anna Ruth)(Jane). Funeral Services will be held at 2PM on Sunday March 2 2014 at Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 12 noon - 2PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Friedens Ev. Church. The Eernisse Funeral Home Port Washington is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements.
