Helen Susan Schwanda age 70 years of Lincoln Village in Port Washington formerly of North Carolina and Philadelphia passed away Thursday June 6 2013 after a long battle with emphysema. Helen was born April 28m 1943 in Abbottsburg NC to William and Susan E. Smith. In 1968 Helen moved with her family to the Port Washington area. She was employed at Modern Equipment Company in Port Washington for 30 years retiring in 2009 as a Senior Cost Accounting Clerk. During that time she also worked at Harborside Holiday Inn for 13 years as a Front Desk Clerk. Helen was a dedicated mother who took great joy in raising her children. She enjoyed being a member of the Sheepshead Card Club Girls Night Out Club Modern Equipment Company Dinner Club volunteering at the Port Washington Senior Center working on the computer/internet and was very active with Reach for Recovery a cancer survivor group. Helen is survived by her two children Anthony (Susan) Schwanda of Boulder Junction WI and Susan Anne (Thomas) Kegel of Round Lake IL 6 grandchildren Ian and Olivia Schwanda and Andrew Maddy Anna and Sean Kegel three brothers Ron Metz Steve (Patti) Metz both from Philadelphia PA and Jeffrey (Debbie) Metz of Elcajon CA her sister Charlotte (Robert) Pollard of Boston MA her mother-in-law Anna Schwanda of Wauwatosa WI one brother in law Alan (Debbie) Schwanda of Germantown WIand three sisters in law Terry Slawney of Elm Grove Ann (Steve Kineke) Schwanda of Clifton Park NY and Allison (Jenna Woodul) Schwanda of Cupertino CA other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents one brother Kevin Metz and one sister Vanette Smith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday June 12 11 AM at St. Anne Catholic Church Boulder Junction with Father Mike Hayden presiding. Burial will be in Cemetery of the Pines in Boulder Junction. Visitation at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1600 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington Monday from 5-7 PM with a 7 PM prayer service and at the CHURCH Wednesday from 10 - 11 AM. The family wishes to thank Aurora VNA Hospice especially Mary Ann Wleklinski and Helen's personal caregivers Laura Mueller Denise Kuopus and Terry Webb for their kind and compassionate care.
