Obituary

Helen R. Maechtle Helen Maechtle age 97 years a longtime resident at 709 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington died Sunday October 16 2011 at Harbor Club where she had been a resident for the past year and a half. She was born April 2 1914 in the Town of Port Washington daughter of the late Frank and Emma Hansman Maechtle. She was a 1936 graduate of Port Washington High School and attended Sheboygan County Teachers College at Sheboygan Falls. She received her Bachelor of Science and Master's Degrees from University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. She taught school at area one-room schools-McKinley School in the Town of Saukville and Lakefield School in the Town of Grafton. She also taught at Saukville State Graded School an d later for Port Washington-Saukville School District retiring at age 70 after 40 years of teaching. Many of her former students corresponded with Helen throughout her lifetime. In 1975 she was named District Teacher of the Year. Helen enjoyed travelingand music (played piano and organ). She was a lifelong member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir had served as the church organist and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of Ozaukee County Retired Educators Association and belonged to a book club. Survivors include her sister in law Doris Maechtle of Port Washington nephews Larry Paul (friend Donna Schubert) Mark (Janet) and Wayne Maechtle all of Port Washington and David (Wendy) Maechtle of Columbia Falls Mt. and a niece Dawn (Alfred) Wegner of Fredonia. She was great aunt to Jerod (Dana) Jamesand Michael Maechtle Jennifer (Brian) Hodgson Sarah (Anthony) Milazzo Michelle (Matt) Furlott Amanda (Jeremy) Landis and Miles Wegner. She was great-great aunt to Carter Luke Lane Alex andTaylor and special friend to Renee Roos. She was preceded in death by her parents her brother Harvey Maechtle and her sister Janet (Albert) Laubenstein. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 19 4:30 PM at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church 505 W. Grand Ave. Port Washington with Pastor David Guse officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation at the CHURCH Wednesday from 2:30 until time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials to Grand Avenue United Methodist Church appreciated. The Eernisse Funeral Home Port Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
