Obituary

Helen M. Nenn of Port Washington passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday October 9 2012 at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton. She was 89 years old. Helen was born January 22 1923 in Oshkosh the daughter of Otto and Bessie Gerdes Negendank. Helen grew up in Oshkosh and on February 19 1944 was united in marriage with Arthur Barney Nenn. They lived in Oshkosh until 1956 when they moved to Saukville and subsequently to their home on High Street in Port Washington in 1959. For almost 64 years they were inseparable. Nothing was more important to Helen than family especially her children. Helen was always active in her children's lives and helped lead both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. For a quarter century the Nenn family crisscrossed the United States camping and taking in the sights. Helen worked as an accountant and business manager at Port Publications until her retirement in the mid 1980's. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she had previously been active as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Women's Guild and Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She had been an aerobics instructor and created the senior aquatic exercise program. She enjoyed bowling golfing (with the Hawthorne Honeys) participating in numerous card clubs and participating in various activities at the Port Washington Senior Center. After Barney's passing in 2008 Helen became a regular volunteer at the Port Washington Historic Light Station serving as the official greeter and a tour guide. Helen is survived by her children: Ralph (Perla) of San Diego Linda of Port Washington Barbara of Sheboygan Betty (Neil) of Richfield and Alan (Aimee) Groth of Oconomowoc. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren: Janeth Tiffany Tamera Patrice Tracy James Shannon Natalia Jason Allison Deanna Daniella Ari Chloe and great-grandchildren: Ashlee Joey Jacob Edward Caleb Kylee Jazmyn Tommy Naomi and Maelee sister-in-law Jane Nott of Oshkosh other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Barney son Edward sister Jane Ehrenhardt and infant sister Emily Negendank. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church 217 N. Freeman Dr. Port Washington on Thursday October 11 at 7PM with visitation from 5-7. A memorial service will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park Chapel in Oshkosh on Friday October 12 at 11AM with visitation from 10:30-11:00AM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church the Port Washington 1860 Light Station or the Port Washington Senior Center. The Eernisse Funeral Home Port Washington is honored to be serving the family.
