HELEN M. HANSEN
Mrs. Helen Hansen, of Garfield Avenue in Port Washington, passed away Thursday morning, April 28, 2016, at Harbor Cove in Port Washington where she had been residing recently. She was 90 years old. Helen was born in Giles, WI on August 31, 1925, daughter of William and Mary Riederer Lodle. She moved to Port Washington after she graduated from Hurley High School in 1944. On July 27, 1946 she was united in marriage with John Hansen at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port. The couple settled in Port, and later bought their house on Garfield Avenue. Mrs. Hansen worked as a nurse's aide at St. Alphonsus Hospital, and later St. Mary's Hospital in Mequon. She retired after 45 years of faithful service.
Mrs. Hansen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port. She loved traveling, and she and John would often take car rides around the area to look at barns or to visit the casino. Helen enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking, gardening, cake decorating and cooking. Holidays were some of her favorite times of the year, and she liked setting out the different decorations for each one. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Helen is survived by her husband John, son William Hansen of Port Washington, daughters Kathy (Lyle) Studer of Grayling, MI, Barb (Milton) Guetzke of Cedar Grove and Judy (Mark) Mathe of Oostburg. She is further survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, her sister Mary Jane Murphy of Jackson, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her granddaughter Terry Hansen, daughter-in-law Kim Hansen and three sisters; Charlotte Valle, Lee Furky and Betty Eternick.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 6:30PM on Tuesday, May 10th at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 430 N. Johnson St., Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside. She will be laid to rest the following day at St. Mary's Mausoleum in Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the Eernisse Funeral Home (1600 W. Grand Ave., Port) on Tuesday, May 10th from 4-5:30PM. There will be a Rosary service at 3:30pm that day.
