IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen M.
Granrath
April 27, 1937 – June 11, 2023
Helen M. Granrath (née Hammond) passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11th, 2023 at the age of 86 at The Lawlis Hospice Center in Mequon, WI. Dear Mother of Jeanine (Gregg) Hendrickson, and Michele Ketchum. Grandmother of Marla (Mark) Douville, Nicole (Michael) Plotkin, Kasey (Michael) Mulligan, and Joseph (Rylie) Ketchum. Helen Granrath was blessed with 5 great grandchildren that were her everything: Lorelei, Kylie, Annika, Emmett, and Dawson. Sister of Roy (Dorothy) Hammond, sister- in-law of Patrick (Sandy) Granrath, sister-in-law and cousin of Nanette Granrath, sister-in-law of Joan (Richard) Cornell, and sister-in-law to Judith (Beecher) Adams. She also had many nieces and nephews that meant the world to her, cousins that she cherished, and friends that loved her so much.
Preceded in death by her loving husband Michael Granrath of 53 years, her mother Christine Hammond, father Roy Hammond, sister Christine Frievalt, baby sister Catherine (Skip) Hall, and her brother-in-law Gregory Granrath.
Helen worked at the Milwaukee Hospital in her younger years, and later she worked at West Milwaukee High School and at the West Allis school district, where she eventually retired. Her first and most important job was taking care of her children sending them off to school with a healthy, hot breakfast and being home for them when they came home from school. Friday nights were big in the family as they all nestled in watching "Tarzan," and eating popcorn.
Helen was a special lady with a definite spunk about her. She had much energy in life and loved to shop without spending much money and looked very forward to the craft fair seasons.
Friendships and family meant the world to her and she was always willing to lend a helping hand when people were in need. She and her husband opened their home up for others in their family to live, until they got their own places. When her husband passed she carried on this gift of care.
There will be a vigil and chat inside the chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7301 West Nash Street Milwaukee, WI. 53216, on Thursday July 20th, from 11:00-12:30. Please bring a good story or memory. Grave site communal prayers will be from 12:30-1:00 at the grave site. These are Helen's wishes and what she had planned. The family would like to thank everyone for honoring her wishes for her funeral to be kept simple.
In lieu of flowers and money please give gifts to The Lawlis Hospice Center. They were amazing in what they all did for her.
