Obituary

Helen Bradley passed away in her sleep on the 10th of February, 2024 at the age of 89.

Helen was born on the 22nd of June, 1934 in Philadelphia to parents Helen and Joseph Schmidt. At the age of 16, she attended business school and then began her career starting at Temple University Hospital, working both at the information desk and in the medical imaging department.

For over 30 years, she worked as a switchboard operator and receptionist, first at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Port Washington and continuing when it became St. Mary's Hospital Ozaukee. From an interview in 1996, when asked about her attention to customer service, Helen reflected "It's not something that I can put down on paper. I just like taking care of people. When the patients enter the hospital, my first instinct is to make them not feel afraid. I think of myself as going into the hospital and I would like someone to take me under their wing so that I could feel good too."

Helen met the love of her life, Eugene "Don" Bradley, at a dance hall in Philadelphia while he was in service and stationed there. She would often tell how Don gave her his class ring before his next assignment. They were married on June 20th of 1953 in Philadelphia and built a life and family together in Port Washington. Helen led a full and rich life through her love of conversations, of connections, of baking, and the importance of family and faith. She will always be remembered for her warm, friendly smile and the impact she had on countless lives.

Helen is survived by her children Gene (Deborah) of Saukville, Helen (John) Reiter of Saukville, Tom (Terri) of Oostburg, Timothy of Chicago, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Don, her son Joseph, and two other children who died at birth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12noon on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at St. John XXIII- St. Mary's Church, 451 N. Johnson St., Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside.

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, February 20, from 10AM until services begin at 12PM.
