Obituary

HARRIET A. KERNATS Mrs. Harriet Kernats of Western Road in Cedarburg passed away at Lasata Nursing Home on Thursday June 19 2014. She was 93 years old. Harriet was born in Cashton WI on February 23 1921 daughter of Robert and Eva Schmitz Bever. The family moved to Milwaukee while she was a child. On April 26 1947 she was united in marriage with Henry Kernats at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple settled in Milwaukee on 37th Street and raised their family. They moved to Cedarburg after Henry retired in 1983. Mrs. Kernats was an active member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Cedarburg and was a member of the American Legion Post 288 Auxiliary. Harriet maintained a close relationship with women she had gone to school with and frequently enjoyed going to lunch with them. She also enjoyed volunteer work often making coffee at fish fries for the American Legion Post. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart; she helped take care of each of them and she and her husband could often be seen in the bleachers at Cedarburg or West Bend High School rooting for the grandchildren in their sporting events and other school activities. Harriet is survived by her husband Henry of Cedarburg and their two daughters: Patty (James) Abraham of Cedarburg and Kathy (Craig) Nuetzel of Germantown. She is further survived by four grandchildren: Christopher (Stacy) Abraham of Vernon Keith (May) Nuetzel of West Bend Brad (Stacey) Abraham of West Bend and Ashley Nuetzel of Milwaukee 14 great-grandchildren sister Millie Chmielewski of West Allis sister-in-law Laura (the late Joseph) Kernats of Lena nieces nephews other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 7PM on Monday June 23rd at the Eernisse Funeral Home 1167 Washington Ave. Cedarburg. Father Justin Lopina will preside. She will be entombed at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee the following day. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home on Monday evening from 4-7PM.
